Drouwenerzand Is A Great Family Vacation Park Near The German Border
Summer vacation has arrived and my parents took us to the Dutch province of Drenthe near the German border where we rented a little cottage and enjoyed the gorgeous outdoors - these are some of my most treasured memories.
A beautiful summer vacation in Drouwenerzand which is a well known Dutch theme park with bungalows and cottages very close to the German border.
The theme park is a fun family theme park in the province of Drenthe. My brother and I truly loved this park and returned to it quite a few times during summer vacations.
We were intrigued by the sewer-man who came and fixed the sewage problem at our cottage due to a stoppage. We were so fascinated that we didn't even notice the aweful smell.
We loved the arcades at the theme park during rainy days. Especially the game Space Harrier.
There was also an awesome beach nearby with a giant lake. This was the perfect play environment for any kid.
One day we went to a German theme park just across the border which had a huge bridge. We attempted to jump from it but were caught just in time. We were told "no monkey business" by our parents.
On the way back we took a great picture on the Afsluitdijk. The Afsluitdijk is a major causeway in the Netherlands, constructed between 1927 and 1933 and running from Den Oever on Wieringen in North Holland province, to the village of Zurich in Friesland province, over a length of 32 kilometres (20 mi) and a width of 90 m, at an initial height of 7.25 m above sea-level.
It is a fundamental part of the larger Zuiderzee Works, damming off the Zuiderzee, a salt water inlet of the North Sea, and turning it into the fresh water lake of the IJsselmeer. The Afsluitdijk was the initial demonstration site for a 130 km/h speed limit in the Netherlands.
