Suffering A Major Concussion At Theme Park Duinrell In Holland
Visiting my favorite theme park ended up with a major concussion due to falling on my head in their fast water slides, I had to be transported by ambulance to the hospital in Leiden for further examination.
Duinrell, one of my favorite theme parks in Holland. I decided I wanted to go see it once more so my mom, sister, brother and myself hopped into the car and drove to Wassenaar in South-Holland.
We had a blast in the park, enjoyed many rides, the chocolate covered apple on a stick (my favorite as a kid), shooting gallery, kikkerbaan and the outlook tower on top of the highest dune.
Afterwards we went to the Tikibad. Which is a massive indoor tropical pool with all kinds of insane slides. This is where all hell broke lose.
I went of the Barracuda slide and went so fast that I lost control in the last corner. I flew to the roof of the tube and manage to fall down on my head. Once in the water I was in serious pain.
My brother was cracking jokes like "c'mon bro, get out of the water your holding up the line" but than he realized things weren't good. He took me to the first aid services at the pool where the medical person laid me down on a stretcher and started to ask me questions. Suprisingly I did not remember my name, that I was living in Canada, my high school, etc. I actually had a serious concussion and had to go to the hospital.
At the hospital I had to do all kinds of head/IR scans to make sure there wasn't any permanent brain damage. Luckily, everything was fine but I still had a bad concussion and was throwing up like a madman due to being extremely dizzy and tired.
The doctor decided that I had to stay the night. Well here I was, in the hospital while being on vacation, thank god I signed for travel insurance prior to my trip. The next day my mother came by and luckily the doctor told me I was able to leave. I just had a nasty bruise on my forehead.
Duinrell ended up sending me an apologize letter about the incident and included free passes to the park which was a nice gesture knowing their Tikibad slides are on your own risk.
