Visting Castles At Vianden In Luxembourg
Luxembourg is one of the smallest & richest countries in Europe and its history goes back to the early middle ages. One of its biggest cities is Vianden and is most notable for Castle Vianden.
A well deserved vacation with my family to Luxembourg which was quite the drive from our little sub-urb in the Netherlands.
We made a day trip to the gorgeous city of Vianden near the German border.
My brother and I had a blast at the campsite where we used to throw water balloons at random people from behind a bush.
We also swam to a rock formation below a gigantic bridge. The rocks we fantastic to jump off from. We always tried to hit the fish which we could see in the water from high above.
My brother often got car sick on the way to another country which resulted in a car smelling like puke.
In Vianden we visited the gorgeous Castle of Vianden located on top of a hill.
The castle is one of the largest fortified castles west of the Rhine. With origins dating from the 10th century, the castle was built in the Romanesque style from the 11th to 14th centuries. Gothic transformations and trimmings were added at the end of this period. A Renaissance mansion was added in the 17th century but thereafter the castle was allowed to fall into ruin. It has, however, recently been fully restored and is open to visitors.
