Adventures on the prairie with our own wooden house and a horse in the backyard. Yiihaa, just like the old American west. We also paid a visit to Ponypark Slagharen which is a very popular  theme park in the Netherlands.

Duinrell

Visiting my favorite theme park and ending up with a major concussion.

Duinrell, one of my favorite theme parks in Holland. I decided I wanted to go see it once more so my mom, sister, brother and myself hopped into the car and drove to Wassenaar in South-Holland. We had a blast in the park, enjoyed many rides, the chocolate covered apple on a stick (my favorite as a kid), shooting gallery, kikkerbaan and the outlook tower on top of the highest dune.

Afterwards we went to the Tikibad. Which is a massive indoor tropical pool with all kinds of insane slides. This is where all hell broke lose. I went of the Barracuda slide and went so fast that I lost control in the last corner. I flew to the roof of the tube and manage to fall down on my head. Once in the water I was in serious pain. My brother was cracking jokes like "c'mon bro, get out of the water your holding up the line" but than he realized things weren't good. He took me to the first aid services at the pool where the medical person laid me down on a stretcher and started to ask me questions. Suprisingly I did not remember my name, that I was living in Canada, my high school, etc. I actually had a serious concussion and had to go to the hospital.

At the hospital I had to do all kinds of head/IR scans to make sure there wasn't any permanent brain damage. Luckily, everything was fine but I still had a bad concussion and was throwing up like a madman due to being extremely dizzy and tired. The doctor decided that I had to stay the night. Well here I was, in the hospital while being on vacation, thank god I signed for travel insurance prior to my trip. The next day my mother came by and luckily the doctor told me I was able to leave. I just had a nasty bruise on my forehead.

Duinrell ended up sending me an apologize letter about the incident and included free passes to the park which was a nice gesture knowing their Tikibad slides are on your own risk.

Odaiba

What better than to enjoy Odaiba on a gorgeous day.

What better than to enjoy Odaiba on a gorgeous day with a great friend. We went to see the big Gundam robot across the Fuji TV building, enjoyed a fun ride in the Odaiba ferris wheel at 377 feet high was the world’s largest when it opened in 1999. The 16-minute ride offers a tremendous view of the Tokyo Tower and Rainbow Bridge as well as a great glimpse of much of the rest of the metropolis, and brought a memorable close to a fantastic day.

The most amazing thing was definitely the Venus Fort. A full shopping experience modeled after the shopping area at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas which is quite funny since I was there a few months earlier.

Huis Ten Bosch

Dutch styled theme park in Japan. It totally blew me away.

After a heavy night of drinking in Fukuoka. Started packing around noon on thursday to go to Nagasaki. Huis ten Bosch is a massive park which has complete replicas of dutch buildings, streets, boats, windmills, etc. I could not believe my eyes upon arrival, the Japanese truly took the time to perfect dutch architecture. Walking through the park I have to say that some look even better than the original. The park had many random hotels all over the place and a private (dutch-styled) bungalow park for Japanese people to have an actual vacation and are able to experience living in Holland while being in Japan. Very crafty I may add.

Some highlights of the park were definitely the; kinderdijk (slaper, dromer, waker), goudase kaasmarkt, nieuwstad, mauritsplein, friesland, binnenstad, prince-willem alexander plein, het stadhuis, spakenburg complete with boats, domtoren and of course huis ten bosch with its beautiful art gallery and garden. It surprised me that it was very quiet in the park, there were barely any people, most people were students and elderly. Maybe due to the current typhoon that is sweeping Japan or maybe because the vacation period is over.

Students and other visitors were very excited when they spotted me, they kept taking pictures and wanted to know why I was visiting Huis ten bosch. I didn't notice any other foreigners either. Due to all the excitement I almost didn't catch the train back to Hakata which was crucial in order to catch the last Shinkansen (aka bullet train) to Osaka.
